Testimonial via email - 2006
"Greetings- My daughter and I experienced the Maine Eastern Railroad's hospitality for the first time this past Saturday. What a wonderful time we had. Every member of your staff was so cheerful and helpful! One of your staff went out of his way to get us the number of the local taxi service. We had lunch at the Grille before venturing into town. We again had the pleasure of great service and outstanding food. Our waitress knew we had little time to spare and she was literally running to get our order to us. Customer service is alive and well and a lot of it is living in Rockland! Thank you so much for a wonderful day off from work and an enjoyable outing. I'll be sure to spread the word. See you again in 2007".

Lobster Rail Roll Package - Train ride and Lunch at the Union Station Grille

A simple and efficient way to enjoy Rockland is to know where you will eat lunch before you arrive.  There are several fine restaurants downtown, and one of them is the Union Station Grille.  The Union Station Grille is a unique, independently-owned restaurant, located in the newly renovated train station just steps from the platform.  Decorated to take advantage of the architectural detail so common in early 20th century train station waiting rooms, including 22-foot high ceilings and terrazzo/marble floors, the “Grille” is a full service restaurant capable of seating 60 people with full bar service.  You can enjoy selections from the varied menu, but if you like lobster, we encourage you to take advantage of our special Lobster RailRoll Package.

Arrive at Rockland at 12:25 PM.  Redeem your Lobster RailRoll Voucher at the Union Station Grille before heading out on your afternoon’s journey, or return to the restaurant at the end of your day around 3:00 PM and relax while you enjoy your meal.  Depart from the train station same day, at 3:55 PM.

*SUNDAY SAMPLER – Wiscasset, Bath & Brunswick as the destination(s)

Here’s a unique way to experience all four of the small towns on the MAINE EASTERN RAILROAD itinerary.  Take the train from Rockland on three separate *Sundays, anytime during the regular season.  With the Sunday Sampler, you take advantage of special reduced pricing when you purchase three rides for one person.

For example:

Sunday Sampler Trip #1 - Take the train to Brunswick!  Leave Rockland at 9:30 AM and arrive at Brunswick Station Square at 11:30 AM – just in time for lunch on your own.  You’ll have two hours in Brunswick, where you can browse Maine Street, the museums, or the expansive campus at Bowdoin College.  Get back on the train for the return trip at 1:40 PM, and return to Rockland at 3:40 PM.  Your Sunday Sampler visit to Brunswick will keep you in town for 2 hours.

Sunday Sampler Trip #2Take the train to Bath!  Leave Rockland at 9:30 AM and arrive at the newly renovated World War II era Bath train station at 11:10 AM.  The up-close view of Bath Iron Works and the Carleton Bridge will take your breath away, but the stroll along Front and Centre Streets in historic downtown Bath will make you wonder what took you so long to visit here.  While you’re there, consider grabbing the trolley for a short ride over to the Maine Maritime Museum.  Get back on the train for the return trip at 2:00 PM, and return to Rockland at 3:40 PM.  Your Sunday Sampler visit to Bath will keep you in town for almost three hours.

Sunday Sampler Trip #3Take the train to Wiscasset!  Leave Rockland at 9:30 AM and arrive at the riverside passenger platform in Wiscasset at 10:40 AM.  The town you know as the place where Route One traffic can sometimes back up for 10 or 15 minutes, really is the “Prettiest Village in Maine”!  The setting for the book titled Night Train at Wiscasset Station, Wiscasset’s compact downtown has a number of antique galleries, restaurants and interesting boutiques; not to mention great views of the Sheepscot River and Davis Island.  Get back on the train at 2:30 PM, and return to Rockland at 3:40 PM.  Your Sunday Sampler visit to Wiscasset will keep you in town for not quite four hours.

The Bonus to all of this is the opportunity to tie in three separate visits to Rockland on either end of all three Sunday Sampler Trips.

Price includes:  Three (3) Individual SUNDAY ONLY Round Trip Coach fares on the train from Rockland to Wiscasset; Rockland to Bath; and Rockland to Brunswick.

$89 Per person for Adults – This is for three separate train trips

Brunswick Packages

Bowdoin, Brunswick and Breakfast - (back to top)

Back when railroads were THE way to travel, there would always be a lodging place near enough to the train station to rest your weary bones when you arrived.  We've found the perfect place for those travelling out of Rockland:  Brunswick Inn on Park Row, where the Innkeeper has created a destination for you that she would want for herself.  With a sophisticated flair, and always with your comfort in mind, Brunswick Inn on Park Row is just the spot to settle into.  The double parlor is appointed with comfortable, clubby leather seating and a collection of original art from Cygnet Gallery.  The Cygnet Room and Gallery serves not only as the breakfast room but as a casual, yet savvy, wine bar for your enjoyment during the evenings.

Guest rooms are designed in a visually stimulating fashion and a fresh approach to inn design steps away from the traditional.

A sumptuous breakfast is assured featuring a different entrée each day.  Favorites include, Eggs Florentine, Apple Caramel French Toast and Raspberry Blintzes.  For the lighter appetite there is always homemade granola, fresh fruit and yogurt.  Breakfast is served between eight o'clock and nine o'clock with wake up coffee available earlier.

Experience the Brunswick Inn on Park Row, created in the belief that your senses crave varied stimulation, whether it be the work of a contemporary Maine artist, the taste of a California Cabernet or the appreciation of a well dressed room; and that you desire a soothing space to lay your head after a long day.

The location of the Brunswick Inn on Park Row may be its single, most coveted attraction. Sitting on the Town's Village Green - the "mall" - the Inn overlooks farmer's markets and concerts in the summer and an oasis of open space at all times.  The Inn is literally, "down the hill" from the beautiful Bowdoin College campus in a quiet tree covered neighborhood, at the entrance to the downtown business district.  The Inn is an easy walk from the Brunswick Maine Street railroad stop, and close enough for a leisurely stroll to restaurants and museums.

Reservations based strictly on Inn availability.

Arrive at Brunswick at 9:45 AM, or 5:55 PM (Wed through Sat).  Depart the train station next day, (see timetable for options).
